Mangaluru: Father Muller Homeopathic Medical College & Hospital, Deralakatte held a graduation ceremony for its students at the Father Muller Convention Centre on April 5 at 2.30 PM.
Vice Chancellor of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bengaluru, Dr S. Sacchidanand was the chief guest of the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Sacchidanand thanked the management for inviting and appealed to the students to be grateful to their parents for their hardship and also to their teachers for leading them from the darkness of ignorance to the light of knowledge. He also advised them to be grateful to the patients from whom they have learnt clinical skills. He stated that homoeopathic medical education is seeing a sea of changes and has survived the test of time since its origin. “India has produced the largest number of homoeopaths. Be knowledgable, ethical, punctual and empathetic towards the patients. You should have a passion to serve people. Once you excel in your profession, name and fame will automatically come to you,” he said.
In his address to the gathering, Most Rev Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangaluru Diocese and President of Father Muller Charitable Institutions said, “The Father Muller Institution was established with a vision to serve the poor, and it has been doing so by delivering the best to them. On each graduation day, Father Muller reaffirms the same mantra of serving poor. I congratulate all the graduates and ask them to be the ambassadors of the Institution by serving the poor and healing them with care and comfort. Homoeopathy is bringing new hope to patients and it is your duty to alleviate their suffering.”
As many as 73 undergraduates and 27 postgraduates of the college graduated on the occasion. They were honoured and certificates were conferred on them by the chief guest. Later, the principal, Dr Shivaprasad K took administered an oath for the graduates.
Later, on behalf of all the graduates, Dr Wafa Zainab expressed a response.
Achievers in various fields were also awarded on the occasion. Overall, 176 ranks were secured by students of the college, subject-wise. The meritorious students include six BHMS in the overall ranks of the university and six M.D (Hom) rank holders of different specialities. The students also bagged six gold medals in the RGUHS examinations. Two of the medals were secured by postgraduate students and four were secured by undergraduate students. They were awarded prizes for their achievements.
The prestigious President’s gold medal, instituted for the first time by Most Rev. Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, was conferred to Dr Aleena Thomas.
On the occasion, the chief guest, Dr S. Sacchidanand was also honoured by the Bishop.
Earlier, a thanksgiving mass was offered by the Bishop at the Lourds Chapel in Deralakatte. The graduates and their parents attended the mass in large numbers. Rev Msgr. Maxim L Noronha, Vicar General of Diocese of Mangalore delivered a homily highlighting the healing ministry of Jesus Christ.
Following this, the formal programme commenced with a grandiose procession of graduates, who were accompanied by a band and salutation with the guard of honour, at the entrance of the venue.
The dignitaries were welcomed with the traditional Poornakumbha. Following this, the formal programme was kicked off with a prayer song sung by the students.
Dr Shivaprasad K presented a report of the activities of the college for the academic year 2018 – 2019.
Director of FMCI, Fr Richard Coelho welcomed the dignitaries and informed the gathering of the healthcare services provided by Father Muller Charitable Institutions, whose motto has been to ‘Heal and Comfort’ the public for the past 139 years. He also highlighted the services rendered by Father Muller Homoeopathic Medical College since the time of its inception in the year 1985. Fr Coelho also stated that the Father Muller Homoeopathic Medical College is the only homoeopathic medical college under the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences to be accredited by NAAC with an ‘A’ grade.
Dr Reshel Noronha and Dr G Rajachandra compeered the programme. Fr Vincent Saldanha, Administrator FMHMC&H delivered a vote of thanks.
