Mangaluru: It looks like the efforts of a young orange vendor in a small rural area in fighting for a college have finally paid off with the state government finally making its decision on the Newpadpu government school.
The school, which earlier saw the establishment of a high school has now gone a step ahead in its progress as students look forward to a college. What’s more, the school will soon see some upgraded facilities which are very unlike what one would find in a rural school.
And for this, they must mainly thank Shri Harekala Hajabba, who has, over the years, put in considerable efforts in the improvement and development of this school.
It is for this reason that he is lovingly known as Akshrakanta and has also been awarded with a number of accolades to his name, of which one is the most coveted Padma Shree.
But little do these souls care for these honors, which is seen from the fact that Hajabba was not satisfied with the development of the school.
After having advocated for the high school, Hajabba went forward with his petition to Siddharamaiah in 2013, claiming the ability to have a college on the same campus.
And now, over a decade later, he finally receives the official letter from the under secretary of the school’s education and literacy department, stating how the government was soon to elevate it to a PU college.
The elderly man can sit back to heave a sigh as he sees his dream unfold and materialize. If only the world had a Hajabba in every rural area to fight for the needs of their youngsters and give them the facilities, the way Hajabba fought for the youth of his area in their need for a college and school.
