Mangaluru: Five persons were injured in an inter-community clash that broke out at Kulai near Surathkal on Monday, October 18.
According to sources, two girls from a community used to frequent a shop at Kulai where their three female friends were employed. Out of the three girls, one belonged to different community, same as that of the shop owner. As the owner too used to interact with the two girls, the members of one community had issues with the two girls visiting the shop. They had also warned the girls to stop visiting the shop.
However, the two girls paid another visit on Monday evening. Raged with this, the community members had a verbal fight with them. On seeing this, a few members belonging to the shop owners’ community also gathered at the spot and the situation grew worse. A verbal fight between the two communities turned physical leaving five injured.
Two men namely Bharath and Pushparaj were admitted to a hospital in Surathkal while three others identified as Ajmal, Althaf and Shamshuddin were hospitalized in Mangaluru.
Former minister Krishna J Palemar and others visited Pushparaj and Bharath in the hospital. A case has been registered at Surathkal police station.
