Mangaluru: Mangaluru Police arrested four people in connection with the robbery of a petrol pump manager Bhojappa who was on his way to the bank to deposit money on September 28 at Chilimbi. They assaulted Bhojappa and robbed Rs 4.20 lakh from him.
The accused are identified as Shyam Shankar from Shakthinagar, who works at Ashrivad petrol pump, Abhishek from Kudupu working as a manager in bar at Mumbai, Karthik and Sagar from Shakthinagar, who work as painters. Police stated that all of the accused are between the ages of 26 and 32.
Police commissioner N. Shashi Kumar informed that Shyam Shankar had worked at the same petrol station as Bhojappa for several years.
Police seized Rs. 60,000 cash, a vehicle and mobile phones from the accused. Commissioner further explained that the accused moved to Mumbai after the robbery, and all the three accused have a criminal background which includes murder, rioting, extortion and activities under NDPS Act. The accused is believed to have given the money to someone in Mumbai and purchased some items with it. More arrests are pending, including those who assisted the suspects in the crime. “I strongly urge all businessmen to take precautions while transferring money and travel with one or two members,” he adviced.
