Ujire: Does your mouth water when you hear the word “pickle?” Tangy, spicy, sweet and sour…. you name it. For many, main course without pickle is just incomplete.
The Laksha Deepotsava of Dharmasthala had organised a pickle mela.
This was the only shop for pickles which was managed by G N Bhat and family.
There were around 12 different varieties-carrot pickle, gooseberry pickle, raw mango pickle etc. Also, the pickles were kept for sale in two coloured variants -red and yellow. Rasam powder, chutney powder, sambar powder, puliogere powder and other traditional products were also available.
With Rs 95000 investment, around 350 kg of fresh pickle was kept on display in the Laksha Deepotsava. People were tasting the pickles in large numbers.
Appe Midi (tender mango pickle) was in great demand. About 35 kg of this pickle was finished within a couple of hours.
The G N Bhat family prepared the pickle preparation without any help from others.
