Mangaluru: The state government, acting on a proposal sent by the Dakshina Kannada district administration has decided to sanction Rs 5 lakhs compensation each to the kin of slain Sharath Madival and Ashraf Kalai, informed State minister for Food and Civil Supplies UT Khader.

Speaking to media persons in Circuit House here on Thursday, UT Khader said, “The state government has approved a proposal forwarded by the Dakshina Kannada District administration requesting sanction of compensation for the kin of slain Sharath Madival and Ashraf Kalai. A sum of Rs 5 lakhs will be granted to their families.”

Ashraf Kalai, an SDPI leader was murdered by miscreants on June 21 at Kalai. Soon after this incident Sharath Madival, a RSS worker was assaulted by unidentified men on July 4 at BC Road and he succumbed to his injuries on July 8.

He slammed the Union government for scrapping the ‘Aam Admi Insurance Scheme’ which will affect the labour class and poor people in the society and hence said that the Union government has to reconsider this decision.

UT Khader said that Department of Food and Civil Supplies had received 15.5 Lakhs BPL card applications out which 11,10 000 ration cards have been dispatched through post. One lakh bogus applications were rejected.

Nearly, 75% fair price shops in the state have installed the Point of Sale machines(POS). But only a few shops in hill stations and border areas have not installed POS due to the network problem. Hence, the government is in discussion with broadband agency in this regard.
