Mangaluru: The Gowda Saraswath Brahmin (GSB) Temples’ Association has urged the police department to investigate the claims made by the arrested accused in connection with the conspiracy against the Kashi Math, it’s Matadhipathi and take necessary action against the culprits.

It can be recalled that Sam Peter, who was recently arrested for posing as the director of the National Crime Investigation Bureau (NCIB), revealed that one of the reasons he was in Mangaluru was because Raghavendra Thirtha, former pontiff of the Kashi Math, had asked him to eliminate Samyameendra Thirtha Swamiji, the present pontiff, in order for him to be reinstalled him as Matadhipathi.

Association president M Jagannath Kamath told reporters here on Thursday, August 29, that most of the GSB community members were shocked by Sam Peter’s statements.

He also explained that Raghavendra Thirtha was relieved of his duties as pontiff of the Math as he found it difficult to follow the customs and conventions.

“Once he was relieved of his responsibilities and duties, he was not expected or entitled to hold any of the sacred idols, paraphernalia, insignia, jewellery, assets and properties of the Math. When he was requested to return the sacred idols and other assets of the Math, he began to conspire with some of his henchmen. A case was filed in the Andhra Pradesh High Court in this regard and the judge ruled that Raghavendra Thirtha was no longer a successor of the Math. Sudhindra Thirtha swamiji was declared the successor of the Math. This caused Raghavendra Thirtha to get jealous and along with his henchmen, he conspired with Sam Peter and others to take revenge. The police should take serious action against the culprits,” Kamath urged.

After the press conference, a memorandum was submitted by the members of the Association, headed by Mangaluru South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath, to Commissioner of Police P S Harsha, seeking action against the culprits.

Association vice president Dinesh Kamath, secretary T Ganapathi Pai,  joint secretary Athul Kudva, treasurer G Umesh Pai and others were present.
