Mangaluru: “The nation is constantly being divided in the name of religion by the BJP. Gujarat and the undivided Dakshina Kannada are two major hubs of the right wing activists. The responsibility to break the shackles of religion and unite as a country is largely on the student community,” said Dinesh Amin Mattu, Media Advisor of the Karnataka Chief Minister.
Addressing the students during a seminar organized by the National Students Union of India (NSUI) on ‘The role of NSUI in social media and the country’s development’ at St Aloysius College premises on Saturday, October 17, he said that the reason for BJP’s success in the Lok Sabha election could largely be accredited to the youth.
“Over 10 percent out of the total 32 percent votes that the BJP received was from the new voters. The BJP capitalized on religion to brainwash the student community and eke out their votes. Social media was partly misused in the mission. It is high time that the student community gets united and fights communalism,” he said adding that the youth of the undivided Dakshina Kannada should always remember the way their forefathers worked in unison towards building great repute in the fields of banking, medicine and fishery among others.
Minister for Fisheries, Youth Affairs and Sports, K Abhayachandra Jain, in his presidential speech said that NSUI is a great platform for students to come together and work for the betterment of the society. He advised everyone to focus on leadership only through sincere service and perseverance.
MLC Ivan D’Souza, who is touted as the pioneer in building NSUI in DK said that the plan to strengthen the student organization was to eliminate Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad as, according to him, it was through the ABVP that the BJP was misleading the youth especially in the coastal belt.
