Mangaluru: Keeping  his promise to install roof top solar panel units in schools, Member of Legeslative Council Ivan D’souza managed to get funds released to Nirmithi centres in the district from MLC local area development funds.

Each institution will get Rs 2.75 lakh each to install 3 kilowatt solar roof top units. Government first grade College in Sullia and Bellandur, Government high schools in Siddakatte and Koyla, Government higher primary school in Balanja (Belthangadi), Government higher primary school in Kavu (Puttur Taluk) and St.Joseph’s higher primary school, Kankanady are listed to benefit in this phase.

Once installed, the schools are set to become self sufficient as far as energy is concerned  and may even accumulate income by selling power to Mangaluru Electric Supply Company (MESCOM) by saving power during holidays.
