Mangaluru: “Due to the changing circumstances, conventional jobs are disappearing and millions of new creative jobs are being created in the recent years”, informed Central University of Karnataka Chancellor Prof N R Shetty on Tuesday, August 6.
He was addressing the gathering during inauguration of diamond jubilee celebrations and 60th institute foundation day at NITK Surathkal. He said, ” in the context of changing situation in the entire world, young engineers face variety of challenges that were not present in the past, but it has evolved over a period of time. The role of engineers is always considered as diversified. Modern engineers contribute a lot for the promotion of industrial growth,” he said.
He further said that there is massive transformative changes being fueled by exponential technologies like robotic process automation, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence among others. Due to this, modern engineers must be aware of these and equip themselves to use the technological developments.
NITK Director Prof K Umamaheshwara Rao presiding over the programme said that each student will have to nurture the plant in the campus in their four years of course. Even the UG, PG, research scholars and teachers will also join the initiative. To mark the diamond jubilee celebration, over 60 variety of fruit-bearing plants will be provided to the students by the horticulture department and they have to plant it and care for it,” he said.
As NITK has planned to launch a green drive campaign ‘one student one sapling’ on the occasion of Independence day celebration, the dignitaries planted saplings on the same occasion as part of the drive.
As part of the year-long celebrations, international and national conferences, symposiums and exhibition will be organised til August, 2020.
