In honor of the golden jubilee year celebrations of Karnataka Police, both Mangaluru City police and Udupi district police organized drug awareness runs on Sunday. The golden jubilee event saw a significant turnout of police personnel and avid runners participating in the 10K run and the 5K run/walk, themed “Fitness for All” and “Drug Free Mangaluru.”
Mangaluru Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal inaugurated the 10K run at Mangala Stadium in Mangaluru at 7 a.m. The route took participants from the stadium to Venkataramana Temple in Car Street and back, extending to Kottara before returning to the stadium. The run, aimed at promoting fitness and raising awareness about drug abuse, took approximately an hour to cover the distance.
Simultaneously, the 5K run/walk was also flagged off, with participants covering the distance between the stadium and Venkataramana Temple. Mr. Agrawal and several other police officers actively participated in this event.
Addressing the participants before the flag-off ceremony, Mr. Agrawal acknowledged the evolution of the State police over the last 50 years but stressed that there is still a long way to go for the force to achieve perfection. He highlighted the persistent issue of narcotic drugs in the city, with over 500 drug consumers and 100 drug peddlers booked in the last six months. Mr. Agrawal affirmed the city police’s commitment to fighting against drugs in a much stronger manner.
In Udupi, several policemen and citizens joined the 5K and 10K runs organized by the police. The 5K run started from Manipal Police station, covering Syndicate Circle, DC Office Road, Coin Circle, Krishnadasa Marga, Marena Road, MIT Junction, and Tiger Circle. Participants in the 10K run completed two rounds of the 5K run route.
