On Sunday night, a terrifying incident unfolded in Kallottu under Shirva gram panchayat limits as a leopard attacked a man while he slept on the veranda of a house, causing severe injuries.

Details of the Incident:

The victim, Surendra (55), hailing from Bihar and working as a labourer in sand extraction, was resting on the veranda of Savita Rajesh’s residence, the Shirva gram panchayat president. The leopard attacked Surendra, leaving him with serious injuries to his cheeks, chin, and face.

Medical Attention:

Surendra was promptly rushed to Ajjarkad government hospital for medical treatment. Currently, he is under care at the hospital, receiving necessary attention for his injuries. It’s reported that the leopard responsible for the attack was accompanied by its cub.

Increased Leopard Sightings Cause Alarm:

The incident has heightened fear among villagers as leopard sightings have become more frequent in Kallottu, Sorpu, Agolibailu, and Padavu areas. Just recently, a leopard preyed on two domestic dogs owned by Sangeeta Naika, adding to the apprehension among locals.

Previous Incidents:

This isn’t the first time such an attack has occurred in the region. In November 2023, a leopard preyed on the domestic dog of Devanna Nayak from Kallottu, leaving behind its half-eaten carcass near the jasmine plant in the house.
