Mangaluru: He is all of 20 and while his counterparts must be busy fiddling with their mobilephones during the lockdown, Mohommed Afreez stands apart.
Afreez, a resident of Golipadpu near Sajipanadu in Bantwal hail from a middle class family, but the young law student has a rich heart that feels the pain of a yellow human being.
That is why, when the lockdown was imposed, Afreez took away all his savings and also his scholarship prize money and decided to utilise it to bring comfort to at least a few people, who have been left in lurch due to the lockdown.
A II LLB students of Vivekananda Law College, Puttur, Afreez did not even think twice before spending his scholarship amount for the cause of the poor and the needy.
Initially, he withdrew all his savings and delivered ration kits to the poor on his motorcycle.
Later, he rented a vehicle to transport these kits and delivered it to the poor. He also sought help of a few donors and joining hands with them, he has disbursed over 280 grocery kits so far.
Afreez says he knew very well about the distressful life of poor.
“Now, they are jobless and forced to remain inside their house. I came across a heart patient who was in need of medicines. There were many such families who could not afford to buy medicines. Hence, initially I spent my scholarship amount, which was about Rs 25,000. I will do my bit to help them overcome the crisis,” he says.
