Royal Denzil Sequeira, AI Research Scientist, Toronto, Canada addressing ISTD Mangalore / Udupi Chapter’s first SkillUp series organized in collaboration with its MoU Partner educational institutions on “Plan your first Job” urged participants to “Begin with the end in mind”. The session was held online on 4 July 2021 at 6.30 pm.

During the 90 minutes session, Royal guided more than 1600 youth from south India through the Zoom platform on various techniques of building an effective Job profile/resume, networking, and getting experience through online internships. Through demonstration, he explained the use of social media platforms such as internshala.com, LinkedIn, etc. to create opportunities for internships and part-time jobs while doing the studies. He said that the most important thing any recruiter looks for in the resume is ‘experience’ and students need not wait till they complete their studies to start internships. Even during the first year of the study itself, one can start building the job profile, and volunteering or doing part-time jobs for free or low salary could be advisable to get work experience. Every student should invest time and effort in self-growth & personality development throughout the career life he added.

Mrs. Nivedita Mirajkar, the Chairperson of ISTD Mangalore/Udupi Chapter launched this maiden session as a part of SkillUp series planned by the Chapter to mentor the youth by offering professional help. In her address, she briefed the objectives of the Indian Society for Training & Development (ISTD) which has completed its golden jubilee recently and said that these types of programs are designed to reach out the student community with certain generic issues which are useful to any students who are venturing into professional life irrespective of the background of their studies.
