Man lured, assaulted and robbed in Bantwal

Bantwal: A man from Vittal, fell prey to a cleverly constructed trap resulting in him being assaulted and the perpetrators making off with his jewellery and cash here on October 21.

The victim, one Mohammed Hanif (32), from Vitlapadnooru, Parthipadi, is Quarry supervisor in Moodbidri. He, along with his wife and children, live in a rented house in Kudthamugeru, Kolnadu.

He befriended a girl on Facebook and had been in constant contact with her for several months.

On Saturday night, the girl called Hanif and asked him to lend her some money as her mother had taken ill. The agreed to meet at Mudipu where she said she would be coming along with a friend. Once they met, she asked her Hanif to take her friend with him to his house in his car and said that she would follow them on her scooter.

When Hanif and the girl entered his house, a Tavera carrying six men reached the house and all of them proceeded to tie him up and assault him. They made the girl pose nude with Hanif and took videos and photos, after which they demanded that they be paid Rs 5 lakhs.

They continued to assault him from 2 am to 4 am, and when Hanif refused to pay them, they made off with his valuables from the cupboard, including his passport, some gold, a watch and his mobile phone. To make things worse, they even made off with his Swift car.

Hanif has lodged a complaint with the Vittal police station and the police have begun their investigation.
