Mangaluru: The Toll Gate Virodhi Horata Samithi Surathkal organised a protest march to call for the closure of the Surathkal toll plaza.
To raise awareness among the public, the protesters organised a rally from the Deputy Commissioner’s Office to the clock tower. They also handed out leaflets urging people to occupy the plaza on October 18 at 9.30 am.
Convener of the Toll Gate Virodhi Horata Samithi Surathkal, M. G. Hegde, addressed the crowd and said, “This rally is to raise public knowledge about laying siege to the toll plaza on October 18.” The Surathkal toll plaza has generated more than Rs. 260 Crore in toll revenue. Local MLAs and MPs from both Districts must explain why they remain mute while the people suffer. MLAs Bharath Shetty and Vedavyas Kamath need to explain their silence on this matter. Additionally, he warned that MLAs would suffer in the upcoming elections if they did not take proper action.
There were several leaders present at the programme including Sunil Kumar Bajal, Santhosh Bajal, and Sushil Noronha among others.
