Mangaluru: CPIM State Committee Member Muneer Katipalla said, “The BJP, which has been plagued by people’s anger due to corruption, price rise and pro-corporate mismanagement, is trying to create communal divide by bringing to the fore the agenda of communal hatred to face the next elections.”

He said that the CPIM is strongly opposed to such political games of communal hatred that will further make the lives of the common man more difficult and demand that fundamental questions of the people like education, employment, health should be discussed.

In Dakshina Kannada District, including Sullia, during the BJP rule, no development work has taken place on the basic questions of people’s lives. The BJP MLAs in the District have ended their terms on their party’s usual agenda of Hindu-Muslim partition. No efforts were made by the BJP MLAs to set up a Government Medical College, which has been a long-standing demand of the people of the District, and to upgrade the Wenlock District Hospital to a super-specialty hospital. In Sullia Taluk Community Government Hospitals in the District, there was not even a single task of recruiting doctors and providing basic amenities. Though four new Taluks were announced, the new Taluks were not sanctioned Taluk hospitals. A new Community Hospital could not be found in the District. Instead, the District’s Health Sector has been left entirely in the hands of private business lobbies, he noted.

This has deprived the common man to access proper health care. The BJP Government in Dakshina Kannada District, which has eight private medical colleges, has given permission to a Government Medical College in the District, which is despite the demands of the people, he observed.

Attempts are being made to alienate the land reserved for the Government Medical College in Puttur to private entrepreneurs, he alleged.

Similarly, the demand to set up a government engineering college in the District has also been ignored. No new PU, degree colleges or professional colleges were established during the BJP regime. Instead, educational institutions that charge high fees and donations are being set up step by step. This has resulted in most parents not being able to provide quality education to their children, he added.
