Mangaluru: A video of an electric transformer exploding and catching fire has gone viral on social media.
Mangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited( MESCOM ) transformer box at Manjalpadepalla in Sajeepa Munnur Village of Bantwal Taluk exploded and a fire broke out.
According to locals, oil had been leaking in the transformer for the past few days and the explosion occurred at around 7.30 am on Sunday March 12 with a loud noise.
Later, when the fire broke out, the locals realised the danger and tried to douse the fire by pouring water and sand.
Later, MESCOM officials reached the spot and were seen busy repairing the transformer.
The power supply in the area has been suspended since the incident and MESCOM assured that power supply will be back after the repair work is over.
The fire was stopped from reaching the hill as the locals immediately swung into action.
