Mangaluru: As per the schedule released by the undivided Dakshina Kannada District Kambala Samiti, Jodukare Kambala was to be formally launched in Shirva this week. The schedule has been changed again and on November 20, Kakyapadavu will be launched with Sathyadharma Jodukere Kambala.
Kambala will be delayed by 3 weeks as the first 3 Kambala of this season Shirva (Nov 5), Pilikula (Nov 12) and Pajeeru (Nov 19) have been postponwd. With this, the total number of Kambalas will come down from 24 to 21. Shirva Kambala, which is a traditional Kambala, will be held only during the day this time on Tuesday December 13 as the sowing of paddy in the field has been delayed and the harvesting has to take place amidst the rains.
The Pajiru Kambala, which was scheduled for November 19, has not been given a new date as it has to be more prepared. In the meantime, talks are also underway to hold Kambala at Pajeeru this time with the more Kambala Committees of the area joining hands.
Committee Chairman Yermalu Rohit Hegde said that there has been a slight change in the dates of Katapadi Jappu and some other Kambalas and such date adjustments may take place in future as well.
The Kambala Committee had given a date of November 12 to Pilikula Kambala but the field preparation work has not yet started. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Rajendra K. V., who showed interest in doing Kambala this time, has been transferred and the new Deputy Commissioner M. V. Ravikumar as just taken charge. So this time also there seems a remote possibility of Kambala happening.
