Mangaluru: In a shocking incident, locals protested against sand mining at Uggedabettu in Sankalakariya of Mundkuru Village in Karkala Taluk on the evening of Friday February 25 and blocked a vehicle carrying sand.

The locals stopped a tempo carrying sand from the Shambhavi River here and demanded that it should be stopped immediately, demanding that the road and the environment in the village was being damaged.

A scuffle broke out between the locals and the sand miner.

A written complaint has already been lodged with the Mundkur Gram Panchayat in this regard. Locals said that they will not allow sand mining to take place here for any reason.

The villagers then informed the Karkala Rural Police Station, who rushed to the spot and warned the sand transporters to control the situation.
