Mangaluru: A youth was arrested by the police for allegedly making a video call to a man employed in Adani Company in Baikampady and introducing himself as ‘Usha’ in the voice of the girl. He also blackmailed him for money by sending some other girl’s private parts and by making a video call.

Usha’s real name turned out to be Dhananjaya, who hails from Biravu near Moodabidri. Naveen Chandra, a resident of Hosabettu in Surathkal, who is employed in Baikampady, got a call from a mobile number.

Taking a screenshot of the two talking, the youth sent it to Naveen Chandra a few days later and threatened to pay him Rs. 25,000, failing which he would send the video clipping to someone else. Naveen Chandra, who was shocked by this, once Google paid Rs. 2,000. A few days later, he called and demanded Rs. 25,000. By this time, Naveen realised that it was not Usha who was calling him. He shared this with his close friends, who advised him to lodge a complaint with the police and accordingly Naveen Chandra lodged a complaint with Surathkal Police.

Police recently took Dhananjaya into custody from Moodbidri and registered a case. He was produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody. Dhananjaya was granted bail on the evening of Thursday February 23.
