Mangaluru: Mining banned near Karinjeshwara Temple

Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Dr. K. Ravi Kumar has declared the area in and around the historic Mahatobhara Sri Karinjeshwara Temple of Bantwal Taluk in the District as a prohibited area for mining activity.

The District Administration has now accepted the request made by Hindu Jagarana Vedike convenor Thirulesh Bellur.

Thirulesh Bellur had submitted a memorandum in reference (1) to the Chief Minister of the Government of State to take appropriate steps to permanently stop mining in the environment and to preserve the sanctity for the conservation of Sri Karinjeshwara Kshetra.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has directed in the letter of reference (2) to take immediate action on the said request. Therefore, the Sub-Divisional Officer of the Revenue Department, Mangaluru Sub-Division and Deputy Director, Mines and Geology Department, Mangaluru, have walked a distance of 2 km around Mahatobhara Sri Karinjeshwara Temple at Kavalamudur Village in Bantwal Taluk of Dakshina Kannada District. A Proposal has been submitted to the Government to ban mining activities in the area and declare it as a protected zone.
