Mangaluru: The garbage disposal problem in City cometed nove days and recahed the tenth day in the wake of protests by contractual paurakarmika urging to fulfill various demands.

Garbage is not being disposed of in various parts of the City, including major wards, apartments and houses. Citizens are throwing garbage from their homes everywhere on the side of the road. Heaps of garbage are increasing on the road due to the breakdown of the garbage collection system. Heaps of garbage from street stalls and flower and vegetable shops area are also accumulating on the roads.

A small number of permanent sanitation workers are engaged in the City’s cleaning work. However, garbage is not being disposed off in all parts of the City. Apart from garbage disposal, problems such as sewerage management have worsened, with sewage leaking and draining into the main road.

The ongoing sit-in by Pourakarmikas in City demanding direct recruitment/direct payment of outsourced employees, which began on March 13, continues, with the strikers further strengthening their stand that Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has not responded to their demands. More than 130 workers are protesting at the Alake STP premises in Mangaluru.
