Mangaluru: Dharmsthala police apprehended five individuals, including a minor, at Thotattadi in Neriya village, Beltangady near Mangaluru. The group, consisting of Rameez (20), Akbar Ali (24), Mohammed Mustafa (22), Mohammed Sadiq (27), and a 17-year-old, was en route to Bengaluru carrying 42 mobile SIM cards, raising suspicions of clandestine activities.
Akbar Ali, having returned from a two-year stint in Dubai four months ago, was found to have acquired the illegal SIM cards during his time abroad. These cards were obtained using fake IDs and various names, prompting a more intensive investigation, given the potential overseas connections.
