Mangaluru: Power cut foils bid to rob jewellery house

Mangaluru: An unscheduled power cut on Sunday night, foiled an attempt to rob a jewellery house in the city. Of the two kilograms of gold and other valuables available in the shop, the thieves could make off with 50 grams of gold.

According to the police, the unidentified thieves gained entry into the jewellery house though a saloon shop which was located adjacent to the gold house. The thieves broke open the shutter door, and cracked the dividing wall to get into the jewellery house, the police said.

Police said, that the thieves had left the gas cutter at the spot and fled with the little gold they could lay their hands on.

“The thieves made a small hole of one of the six lockers using gas cutter. About 50 grams of gold is stolen”, said Narayan Acharya, proprietor of Shilpa Jewellers, Kadri speaking to newskarnataka.com.

“More than two kilograms of gold was kept in separate lockers. The thieves have not touched the silver ornaments”, he said.

Subhash, a resident of Shaktinagar noticed the robbery, when he came in the morning to open his saloon ‘Style Men’s Beauty Parlor’. “I immediately called up the owner of Shilpa Jewellers”, he told the police. “The thieves have stolen our television set”, he said.

Mangalore East police expressed confidence in catching the thieves after they inspected the spot. The canine squad and finger print experts inspected the spot as well.
