Mangaluru pub attack: Justice delayed and denied ?

Mangaluru: Moral policing had stooped to its lowest when a group of men, in 2009, barged into a pub in Mangaluru and unabashedly assaulted the youngsters, including the girls at the joint thereby leading to a nation-wide outcry on the shameful incident.

However, the recent acquittal of all those accused in the case by a court citing lack of evidence has come even more as a shocker to a nation which has massively been propagating the Beti Bachao campaign. Unfortunately though, no voices are being raised against the acquittal of the accused or the evident botch up in the delivery of justice.

Reportedly, the cops while filing the chargesheet with the court had missed submitting an important piece of evidence which if submitted would have impacted the court verdict. The evidence in question happens to be the video clipping of the incident which at that time had been splashed all over television channels. The only documents that were reportedly submitted in court were the trade licence, liquor licence, list of rules of the pub and also the medical certificate of an injured male victim.

The infamous incident at Amnesia pub had witnessed a lot of hue and cry at the moment and one of the youths who rushed to the help of the girls was hailed as a hero while many others just stood mute spectators as the ladies were pulled out, thrashed by Sri Ram Sene activists, all in the name of “moral policing.”

Speaking to Newskarnataka, DYFI State President Munir Katipalla said that ruling Congress government had failed to present a strong case with proper evidences. Congress leaders who speak about communalism lack ideological commitment. Congress, which came to power promising the people against the communal incidents, has completely failed to secure justice. Even if the government appeals in the higher court against the judgement, there may not be a positive outcome as the chargesheet filed is very weak.
