Mangaluru: Condemning the death of fellow lawyer Ajith Naik in Dandeli, the lawyers of the Mangalore Bar Association staged a protest in the court premises here on August 6.

Addressing the gathering at the protest, General Secretary of Mangalore Bar Association Dinakar Shetty said, “Though Karwar police have arrested an accused in the murder, all the absconding accused should be captured soon and brought before the law. Increased attacks on advocates have put the fraternity in fear.”

Dinkar Shetty demanded the Karnataka state government to enact a law to provide security for lawyers in the state, on the lines of Advocates Protection Act passed by many other states.

“The state government should provide a compensation of Rs 25 Lakh to Ajith Naik’s family and police must hold a transparent probe into the murder,” he added.

Mangalore Bar Association Treasurer Sujith Kumar, Pushpalatha U K and others were present at the protest.
