Mangaluru: An attempt to murder Mangaluru Qazi Twaka Ahmed Musliyar was carried out on February 8 after he delivered a speech asking CAA protesters not to indulge in violence. Luckily, the Qazi was able to escape from the perpetrators.
The incident took place after activists from an organisation were outraged over a speech that the Qazi delivered on January 2, in which he stated that the CAA did not affect any Muslims while appealing for peace among community members.
After attending a religious programme, the Qazi was reportedly on his way to Kasargod when his car tyre was punctured in Nanthoor.
When the car came to a stop, the driver saw a man approaching the vehicle with a pistol in his hand. Upon seeing him, the driver immediately started the car and drove away.
A complaint has been filed at the Kadri Police Station in this regard. The Qazi has further been provided with a gunman, as well as a police escort.
Murder attempt must be fully investigated, says MLA UT Khader
Condemning the recent murder attempt carried out on Mangaluru Qazi Twaka Ahmed Musliyar, Congress MLA UT Khader said, “This should not be another hit and run case. This case of giving death threats to the Qazi should be thoroughly investigated and those behind it should be exposed.”
“Even when I had received a life threat, the police provided security but I sent them back. Those who have called the Qazi and issued death threats should be punished,” he added.
