Mangaluru: They say music knows no religion, but the recent incident of a talented singing sensation from Shivamogga being trolled online for singing Hindu devotional songs despite being a Muslim, brings to fore a serious issue of religious fanaticism trying to divide music between religions!

Suhana Sayeed sang a devotional song in a Kannada reality show recently during her performance and the same was lauded by the judges who even said that Suhana was the symbol of unity and that music can bring peace and harmony in the world. But, this did not go well with many and soon to respond were a bunch of people on facebook page ‘Mangalore Muslims’ who began to make derogatory remarks on Suhana.

While some called her a disgrace to the community, many opined that she had tarnished the Muslim community by singing before men!

“You have not achieved a great feat. People who learn the Quran in 6 months are the real achievers. Your parents will not go to heaven (Jannat) as you have exposed your beauty to other men. Stop wearing the pardah as you don’t how to respect it,” read a comment on the page. Meanwhile, good number of people have come in support of the girl.
