Bantwal: “The various central government welfare schemes that the economically poor sections of the society are benefitting from, were implemented by the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA)”, said former Congress MLA Ramanath Rai, here on Wednesday, April 10.
Addressing a press meet, he criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance and said, “NDA has implemented schemes which are only beneficial for the business class. Because of this, the economically poor sections of the society have become helpless.”
“UPA regime had implemented laws like Right to Information (RTI) Act, employment schemes, schemes related to health and education. But NDA has helped only the business giants”, he added.
Slamming the BJP government for the “rising labour issues”, he said, “During the NDA regime, the Panambur Dockyard labourers were shifted all of a sudden to Mumbai. This created a major crisis among the labourers, especially the ones from Dakshina Kannada.”
“The contract labourers of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) were not paid their wages for months together. Where was BJP MP Nalin Kumar Kateel then?”, he added.
He opined that if the electorate voted for the Congress and Janata Dal (S) coalition candidate Mithun Rai, then the economically poor would benefit.
Meanwhile, the former minister said that Mithun Rai would begin his campaigning in the town from Thursday, April 11.
Zilla panchayat members Chandrashekhar Shetty Thumbay, B Padmashekhar Jain, Bantwal Block Congress President Baby Kunder and others were present.
