Sullia: The residents of Sullia had long forgotten the existence of a park named ‘Netaji Park’.
Situated at Mogarpane, this park had remained in shambles over the last several years. However, the dilapidated condition of the park caught the attention of Lions Club Sullia, which joined hands with the local Town Panchayat and took up the task of breathing life into the dying park.
Thanks to the dedication of the Lions Club and the Town Panchayath, a beautiful park has been shaped up.
Several years ago, this park was laid with the aim of giving a chance to little children to have a gala time in the evenings.
However, marred by the Town Panchayat’s apathy, this park was soon swallowed by luxuriously growing wild vegetation.
Neither did the locals, nor did the Panchayat feet the need to maintain this much-needed lung space.
This year, Lions Club decided to give a facelift to the park. It earmarked a sum of Rs 2.10 lac for the purpose and took up the renovation work on priority basis.
Swings, slides and various other equipment have been placed in the park so as to keep young children engrossed.
With eye catchy paintings on the walls, the park looks nothing short of a paradise for kids.
Very soon lawns will be laid around the park to add to its beauty, it is said.
Adequate number of concrete benches were supplied by the Town Panchayat for the project.
It has now been decided that a Park Committee will be formed soon so as to maintain the park in good condition.
While the Town Panchayat will set aside a certain amount for the up keep of the park, a committee with TP President, Lions Club President and local leaders will be formed soon.
All in all the credit of breathing life into a dying park goes to Town Panchayat President Prakash Hegde and Lions Club Sullia President Ajayaram Derappajjanamane.
