Mangaluru: The long-pending demand of digging borewell at Smashanagudde has finally materialised with the cooperation of local MLA D Vedavyas Kamath, two days ago. When the residents witnessed water in their pipeline from the new borewell, they heaved a sigh of relief.
As the Smashanagudde and its surrounding areas in Jeppinamogaru are located at an elevated level, the residents here were facing drinking water. Though the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) attempts to supply water to all the 60 wards in its limits, the residents of these areas hardly receive water as it cannot make it through the pipeline water to the elevated areas.
Due to this, there was a huge demand for digging borewells in Smashanagudde. The residents of these areas have submitted several memorandums to the elected representatives. However, it did not yield any positive result. Finally, the residents approached MLA D Vedavyas Kamath and informed about the immediate requirement of borewell in that area.
Considering the urgent need of borewell, Vedavyas Kamath convinced the officials at MCC and took immediate measures to dig it there. Hence, measures were taken to identify the exact spots to dig the borewell. Within two days, the borewell was installed and water provided to all the houses.
Suresh Poojary, a resident of Jeppinamogaru expressed his pleasure over the quick response by MLA Vedavyas Kamath citing that it was their urgent requirement. “We heaved a sigh of relief when we received water from the new borewell. Over 100 families are benefiting from this new borewell”, he informed.
Vedavyas Kamath told Newskarnataka.com that it was his responsibility to address the problems of the people. He also clarified that the election code of conduct prevented him from holding a meeting with the officials and ensure necessary measures. “Soon after the election code of conduct was lifted, I approached the officials and asked them to identify the spots to dig borewells. Lot of families which are residing in elevated areas have been demanding borewells. However, measures will be taken to dig borewells only after obtaining the opinion from geological experts”, he said.
