Mangaluru: Traffic on NH 66 near Surathkal came to a standstill at around 3.30 am on Friday, November 6, as a truck laden with beedi leaves hit the roof of the newly constructed toll gate here.
The impact was such that a part of the roof was completely damaged. Though the Traffic Police arrived at the spot, it took quite some time for them clear off the traffic.
The passengers most affected among the stranded were the one’s travelling to the airport as they couldn’t board their flights as per the schedule.
Mangaluru North MLA Moideen Bava visited the spot. He opined that the spot was not apt to build a toll gate. The locals too said that with such unscientific planning, accidents were bound to happen.
