Mangaluru: As a lot of people have been facing a financial crisis and have been struggling to buy groceries required for their daily needs, the New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) distributed 6,000 grocery kits to the needy.
The kit distribution commenced on Tuesday, April 28, in the presence of MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Mangaluru North MLA Dr Y Bharath Shetty, NMPT Chairman A V Ramana, Deputy Chairman K G Nath, and Mayor Divakar Pandeshwar.
Each grocery kit comprises 6 kgs of boiled rice, 1 kg toor daal and 200 gms of lemon pickle. These grocery kits are being distributed to the needy people of Surathkal, Panambur, Baikampady, Thannirbavi, Hosabettu and Kulai. The grocery kits are also being given to the Sri Nandaneshwara Temple Committee, which has been distributing food to the underprivileged in the nearby areas.
Additionally, the NMPT has contributed to the PM-CARES Fund to strengthen the Union Government’s resources to fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
A sum of Rs 4.3 crores was donated to the PM’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situation (PM CARES) Fund on April 4. For this purpose, the employees of the Port contributed one day’s wage from their monthly salary for the month of April 2020, and the balance amount was donated from the Port’s General Fund.
The NMPT has been instrumental in helping society in times of distress and has always emphasised on the betterment of society.
