Kasargod: A history-sheeter Hameed alias Gujari Hameed (25) has been arrested on Wednesday July 30 by the Kasargod police and the team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP)T P Ranjith.
Hameed, who is a native of Attegoly in Uppala Paivalike, was arrested along with his co-conspirator Mohammed Siddique (32) from Bangalore.
Hameed has several numbers of cases against him over the years. Around 19 cases such as attempt to murder, posing of threats in Manjeshwar police station limits, two in Kumble, one at Bekal, and one in Karnataka have been registered against him.
Hameed has been charged with attempting to murder Manjeshwar station sub-inspector of police, P Pramod, about a month back at Paivalike. As many as 19 cases of murder attempts and posing of threats in Manjeshwar police station limits, two in Kumble, one at Bekal and one in Karnataka, stand registered against him.
Over the years there are also cases such as forceful collection of hafta (protection money), robbing of passengers by intercepting vehicles, house burglary, illegal liquor transportation and other such thefts involved.
On June 27, 2014 Hameed had allegedly threatened Manjeshwar SI on gun point near Badiadka. He is one of the accused in the case of threatening Manjeshwar SI Pramod when he and his team waylaid a vehicle in which the accused and his gang was suspiciously taking rounds in the city.
SI Pramod tried to take the accused in to custody but Hameed threatened to kill the SI by showing the gun. The gang had then fled from the place.
Hameed was produced in court. DySP T P Ranjith said that the police custody of the accused will be sought to get more details relating to the crimes he was involved in. The police are also on the lookout for some other accomplices of Hameed.
