Mangaluru: “Education and politics have been stagnant without any change since a very long time”, said renowned Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) USA and CEO of edX and meritorious alumnus of St Aloysius College, Mangaluru, Prof Anant Agarwal.
Delivering an “Endowment Lecture” on the topic Digital education transformation at St Aloysius College here on Monday, January 8, Prof Anant Agarwal emphasized the need to upscale workforce to cater to the needs of transforming job trends in the future.
“Technology has impacted our day-to-day life and is being effectively used in several other arenas, which include health care, robotics etc. However, as far as education is concerned technology has not really been factored in the field so far,” he said.
He introduced three important trends in the future of education namedly, Modular Education, Omni channel Education and Lifelong Education. He also answered certain questions put forth by the students. Under Graduate and Post Graduate section students were the beneficiaries of the program.
During the programme, Prof Anant Agarwal was felicitated by the college for his meritorious contribution to the society and the citation was read out by Fr Denzil Lobo SJ.
Prof Anant Agarwal was honoured by Padma Shri Award, the Fourth Highest Civilian Award of Republic of India in 2017 by the Government of India for his outstanding achievement. He is also the recipient of Maurice Wilkes Award for Computer Architecture, Harold W. McGraw, Jr. Prize in Education in Higher Education, as an outstanding leader of the development of the Massive Open Online Course movement (MOOC) in 2016.
Rev. Fr Dionysius Vaz SJ, Rector of St Aloysius College Institutions, presided over the function and formally welcomed the chief guest with flowers.
