Mangaluru: The first phase of the partial parallel taxiway, a 1,200 m stretch at the Mangaluru International Airport was commissioned on Monday, March 6.
Air India, AI 680, Mangaluru-Mumbai flight, was the first to use the facility and was accorded with a water canon salute before it entered the taxiway.
With the taxiway now functional, there will be a considerable reduction in the runway occupancy time and waiting time for aircraft at the apron (parking area).
A 30 m deep valley was filled to create this concrete taxiway and it took nearly a year and a half to complete the work.
