As temperatures soar in coastal Karnataka, residents, animals, and birds alike are feeling the heat. However, Pilikula Biological Park has implemented special measures to ensure the comfort of its diverse inhabitants.
Coping with Rising Temperatures
With the mercury climbing, residents are resorting to traditional remedies like drinking tender coconut water and consuming watermelon to beat the heat. Meanwhile, Pilikula Biological Park, sprawling over 150 acres and home to over 1000 species of animals, birds, and reptiles, has taken proactive steps to alleviate the effects of the heatwave.
Measures Implemented at Pilikula
To keep its residents cool, water is sprinkled four to five times a day on animals such as tigers, hippopotamuses, and birds. The park has installed sprinklers throughout, allowing animals and birds to cool off as water cascades down. Additionally, water tanks and ponds have been constructed to provide opportunities for immersion.
Innovative Solutions for Comfort
The roofs of animal and bird cages have been painted white to reflect heat, and coconut palms have been strategically planted to offer shade. Even reptiles benefit from water sprinkled from above. These combined efforts ensure that the animals and birds at Pilikula remain comfortable during the scorching summer months.
Commitment to Well-being
Jayaprakash Bhandary H, the director of the park, emphasized the sanctuary’s dedication to the well-being of its inhabitants. Through proactive measures and innovative solutions, Pilikula Biological Park continues to prioritize the comfort and welfare of its diverse array of residents.
