Rai promises to complete Ranga Mandir project in 18 months

Mangalore: After failing to meet several deadlines, the district in-charge minister B. Ramanath Rai promised to complete the project of constructing the Dakshina Kannada district Ranga Mandira, which is going to come up in Bondel.

Addressing the reporters here in DC’s office on Tuesday, he said that the project would be complete in 18 months. However, when the reporters teased the minister saying that the project would not come up until we the reporters and you retire, the minister after a hearty laugh, said that it will be strictly monitored this time.

Spread over 3.35 acres, the Ranga Mandira will come up at an estimated cost of Rs 24 crore. The spacious building will have a floor area of 6,694 sq. ft. and  have the capacity to accommodate 1,500 persons.

Besides, it will have the offices of the department of Kannada and culture, Konkani Sahithya Academy and Byari Sahitya Academy.

Ranga Mandir will have a modern sound system and lighting.

There will be two separate seminar halls with 250 pax seating capacity each and two open theatres with 200 seats.  In addition, the building will have an art gallery and exhibition centre, four guest rooms, parking for 130 vehicles, a sales counter for books and a stock room.

DC AB Ibrahim was present on the occasion.
