Mangaluru: Rama-Lakshmana jodukere Kambala (buffalo race) organised at the Gold Finch city in Bangra Kuloor opened amidst festive mood, on Sunday, January 13.
After Kadri Kambala stopped, the people who are residing in city area were deprived of watching Kambala in the city. Hence, Rama-Lakshmana jodukere Kambala was organised under the leadership of BJP leader Cap Brijesh Chowta at Bangra-Kuloor, which is located just six kilometer away from the city Mangaluru.
Proper arrangements were made at the place to ensure everyone gets a clear view of the folk-game Kambala. A separate tent was set up, adjacent to the place to make sure the participating buffaloes get adequate rest. Kambala was inaugurated by Kankanady Brahma Baidarkala Garadi president K Chittaranjan. Kambala experts Prof Gunapala Kadamba and Rajeev Shetty Yedthur were the judges. Organisers used laser beam network system at the finishing point in order to get accurate result.
The event started with different categories like Hagga Hiriya and Kiriya (Rope senior and junior) Negilu Hiriya and Kiriya (plough senior and junior), Halage (wooden plank) and Kane Halage.
The competitions would go on till early Monday morning, sources informed.
