RBI appoints Pradeep Kumar Panja as Karnataka Bank Non-Executive Chairman

Mangaluru: The Reserve Bank of India has confirmed the appointment of Pradeep Kumar Panja, an independent director of Karnataka Bank Ltd., as part-time Non-Executive Chairman of the bank, starting November 14, for a period of three years. As the RBI has approved, he would succeed P. Jayarama Bhat, who will complete his term as chairman on November 13.

Pradeep Kumar Panja is from the Dakshina Kannada Village of Panja. He is Retired Managing Director (Corporate Banking) of the State Bank of India (SBI). He previously served as Managing Director of the State Bank of Travancore for nearly a year.

He had extensive experience in various areas of banking over his 39-year-tenure with SBI, including corporate and international banking, treasury management, information technology, retail, transaction banking, strategic planning, business development, and risk management.

He is currently a Member of the Banks Board Bureau (BBB) and a Director on the boards of seven companies involved in asset reconstruction, cement, real estate, NBFCs, AFIs etc.

Since August 19, 2020, he has been on the Board of Karnataka Bank Ltd. At their 97th general meeting on September 2, the shareholders approved his appointment as an Independent Director.
