Mangaluru: Mangaluru South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath informed that soon, a total of Rs 65 crores will be spent on various welfare programmes in the city under the Mahatma Gandhi Nagar Vikas Yojana (MGNVY).
In a press release, Kamath stated that a total of Rs 125 crores has been released to the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC), out of which Rs 105 crores is available for the implementation of various developmental works.
As much as Rs 15.18 crores will be for the welfare programmes for people from the scheduled castes, Rs 3.15 crores will be for the development of the traffic system, Rs 2.76 crores for drinking water needs and Rs 2.76 crores will be spent for cleanliness.
Meanwhile, Rs 38.664 crores will be utilised for the development of the interior roads, construction of bridges, solid waste management etc.
Kamath also informed that the Cabinet has already approved the utilisation of the amount and that different works will be undertaken soon, after approval is received from the Urban Development Department.
He then thanked Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa for releasing the amount, stating that it would accelerate the development of Mangaluru city.
