Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada district BJP President Sanjeev Matandoor has opined that Narendra Modi led union government has taken a historic decision by scrapping Article 370 and 35A, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir so far.
Speaking to media here on Tuesday, August 6, Matandoor said,” prior to the election, the BJP had assured of scrapping these articles if BJP was voted to power. The decision taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amith Shah was commendable and historic one as it treats all Indians equal. The Congress had given special status to Jammu and Kashmir only to appease the Muslim community and get their votes in the election”.
Meanwhile, Matandoor appreciated Chief minister Yediyurappa’s decision of waiving loan of the fishermen community soon after he assumed power. “It shows his sincere concern for the fishermen community”, he added.
Speaking about cancelling Tipu Jayanti by BJP government, Matandoor said that the BJP had fought against the decision of celebrating Tipu Jayanti as it led to death and communal violence. “Why should we celebrate a communal person just to appease one section of the public”, he questioned.
MLAs Vedavyas Kamath, M Dr Bharath Y Shetty, District BJP general secretary Capt Brijesh Chowta among others were present.
