Mangaluru: The Mangaluru taluk unit of Shamiyana (tent) Owners’ Association was formally inaugurated at the mini auditorium of Town Hall on Monday, November 5.
Kadri Manjunath Temple priest Krishna Adiga blessed the occasion and expressed his pleasure over the formation of an association of shamiyana owners. He said, “Installing of shamiyanas is very important for any programme. Shamiyanas protect us from the scorching sun. Hence, it is necessary for shamiyana owners to come together in order to get solutions for their problems and to share their thoughts.”
Meanwhile, Derebail Church parish priest Fr Austin Peter Peres and Abdul Hameed Faizi of the Juma Masjid also blessed the occasion.
The programme was inaugurated by the director of `Namma Kudla`Tulu television channel Leelaksha Karkera and he wished success to the association. District unit president, Babu K V Vittal informed that the association would initiate various welfare programmes for the upliftment of its members in the coming days. Mangaluru taluk president Umanath Suvarna said, “Though the practice of erecting shamiyanas came into existence 60 years ago, the owners took a long time to come together. Now, this association will conduct social service activities in future.”
Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists’ Association president Srinivas Nayak Indaje, CEO of ‘Field Star’ Deepa Kamath, association members Abdul Latheef, Mohammed Farooq, Abdul Rasheed, Clever D’Souza, Yuvaraj, Ganesh Kamath, Shivaprasad Hegde Moodbidri and Naveen, among others were present.
