Mangaluru: Almost eight and a half months after Shyama Prasad Shastri, brother of business man Diwakar Shastri allegedly committed suicide, the latter’s last phone conversation held with RSS think tank Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat surfaced, and  is in the possession of NewsKarnataka.com. Shyama Shastri died after allegedly shooting himself with his licensed firearm on Aug 31, 2014 at his house at Kedila, Puttur taluk a few minutes after this phone call.

Recently RSS, Kshetreeya Karyakarini Sadasya, Prabhakar Bhat, was summoned by the CID (Criminal Investigation Department), and grilled by the investigation officer, in the case of the suspected suicide about the conversation between Prabhakar Bhat and Shyama Shastri held in Havyaka dialect over Raghaveshwara Bharati’s case. The RSS ideologue was heard stringently instructing to visit the mutt.

Shyama Shastri’s death sparked a furore in the state as he is the brother-in-law of Premalatha Diwakar who had slapped a rape case against Raghaveshwara Bharati, seer of the prestigious Mutt of Havyaka community, Ramachandrapura Mutt. Shastri too was an ardent devotee of the Mutt, selflessly involving himself in all the religious activities of the Mutt.

The sources in the Shastri family told NewsKarnataka.com that Prabhakar Bhat insisted that Shastri visit Raghaveshwara Bharati, seer of Ramachandrapura Mutt in order to exhibit solidarity with Bharati in the alleged rape case filed by Premalatha Diwakar. He was under tremendous pressure as many people had demanded that Shastri   present himself in person before the seer Bharati, and sign a statement that states that he still owes his allegiance to the Mutt. On receipt of the call, he was in a dilemma, as to whether to visit the Mutt along with his brother-in-law Dr. Ganesh Sharma, or not.

It may be recalled that Shastri’s wife Sandhya Laxmi in a complaint lodged at Puttur Town Police Station stated that incessant phone calls by followers of the seer drove her husband put him under tremendous pressure, and therefore the suicide. The Puttur police had registered the case under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) and Section 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code against unidentified persons who are suspected to be followers of seer.

Shastri’s last call to Bhat at 12.38 PM on 31/8/2014 begins with Hari Om (way of starting conversation among staunch Hindus). However Shastri initiating talk told Bhat that his brother-in-law (Dr Ganesh Sharma) has Suthaka (Impurity in the religious sense. It is not same as impurity in a microbiological sense, here it talks of RITUAL IMPURITY known in Sanskrit as ‘asaucham’ in which one has to conform to a certain type of behavior and place some restrictions on oneself and one’s socializing for a certain period of time) and he failed to remember this. “Ganesh will not be able to come today”.

“We are mulling to postpone the visit and planning to go after two days (to Mutt) after Dr Ganesh Sharma performs rituals of religious purification (Shuddha).” He further continued saying “I spoke to Shivshankar Bhat (another relative in touch with Shastri over case) on this and asked can we also take Prabhakar Bhat if he was free to come with us (to Mutt).” Suddenly Bhat interturupting him says “I have spoken already, if he has Suthaka and willing to go, he can go after few days. Now you (Shyama Shastri) are all set to go, so start immediately.”
