Bantwal: Several petty shops functioning on roadsides were evicted so as to make way for swift flow of traffic near Farangipet on Thursday morning. The eviction drive that kick started on Monday has made its headway fighting several odds and even on Thursday petty shop keepers and vendors raised voice against the eviction drive, fueling confusion at the spot.
Superintendent of Police Bhushan Gulabrao Borase, on Sunday received several complaints from the locals with regard to traffic congestion at Farangipet. Acting on these complaints promptly, the SP ordered Bantwal police to act and accordingly from Monday, the cops resorted to slamming penalty on those parking the vehicles haphazardly on the roadsides. On Wednesday evening and on Thursday eviction of roadside shops that were eating upon the road space commenced. Since autos, bikes and private vehicles had made it a routine to park vehicles on open space in front of the bus stop, the buses were forced to stop the vehicle on the road and allow passengers to board and alight from the bus.
The said open space also had several petty shops and push carts, which were also evicted by the police on Thursday morning.
The vendors took objection to the eviction drive and expressed their ire stating that they are poor and the petty shops have been their sole source of income over several years. However, the police went ahead with the drive.
Bantwal rural SI A K Rakshith Gowda and Traffic SI Chandrashekaraiah came to the spot and convince the petty shop owners to co-operate for the larger good.
