Mangalore: Agitated by Karnataka legislative council speaker Kagodu Timmappa’s comments about Queen Abbakka, the Shreeramsena mangalore unit burnt the effigy of the speaker and has demanded his resignation.
A protest was organised by Shreeramsena in front of the DC office to condemn the comments that the speaker made questioning Abbakka’s contribution to the state.
Addressing the agitators, Kumar Malemar, state vice-president of Shreeramsena said that, “By his comments the speaker has hurt the feelings of tulunadu. Queen Abbakka was the lady who upheld the integrity of this land until her last breath by fighting against the Portuguese. The speaker has to resign from his position or he has to apologize for his comment.”
Kumar Malemar further said the Speaker had made such a comment on a valiant queen as he was ignorant of history as well as the achievement of Abbakka. Even the silence of the local elected representative UT Khader who is also the health minister, came under criticism on the occasion.
Abhayachandra Jain was present and he did not raise his voice against this. He is also the honorary president of Rani Abbakka festival committee and still he was quite, which is very disappointing.
An effigy of Kagodu Thimmappa was also burnt by the agitators. Several Sri Rama Sena members including Ganesh Attavar, Jeevan Neermarga and Mahesh Bhat participated in the protest.
