Sullia battered by rain and wind, several houses damaged

Sullia: Heavy rain and hailstorm unleashed havoc in Sullia on Wednesday, April 24. Rains couple with thunder and lightning started at about 4 pm and continued for more than half an hour.

Sullia received good rain in the past two days and the rains damaged several houses.

In Bettampady and Jayanagara villages seven houses were damaged. In Bettampady roof of a house flew off in the heavy wind causing severe damage to the house. The house belonged to one Balakrishna of Bettampady.

In Ajjavara village, houses and bus stops were damaged in the wind. In Sonangeri a tree fell on the road causing traffic disruption.

Electricity supply to Sullia Taluk was disrupted due to rain and wind. The electricity supply, which had stopped around 4 pm was not restored even till. Late night.

Tahasildar of Sullia N M Kunji Ahammed visited Bettampady and Jayanagara villages to assess the damage caused to the houses and agriculture due to rain and wind. He promised appropriate compensation for the affected people after preparing a detailed report regarding the damage.
