Puttur: A convict in Sullia double murder in 2013 has been sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 20,000 by the Fifth Additional District and Sessions Court, Puttur. If he fails to pay the fine, the court has ordered 6 months simple imprisonment.
Padmavati, wife of Harish Naik, a resident of Naraje in Sullia Kasaba and tipper driver Hithesh were brutally murdered in 2013.
The convict Vasanth Sherigar, a resident of Muliya in Ajjavara village worked as daily wage worker at Harish’ house. Gradually he developed friendship with the family and had an illicit affair with Harish’s wife. When Harish’ new house construction work was underway, Padmavati also developed a relationship with Tipper driver Hithesh who used to come to unload mud. The convict got enraged by Padmavati and Hithesh’s affair, and allegedly murdered the duo when they were having sex.
Sullia Police arrested Sherigar thereafter and submitted a chargesheet on the same. The court on November 18, pronounced the accused guilty.
