Sullia: The rural India has contributed immensely to Indian sports as it has been producing talented sports persons. The young generation has lost their direction in the globalisation spree and is moving away from active sports. In the present day scenario where sports is not given the importance it deserves, a few like-minded people joined hands in the year 2017-18 to form the Sullia Taluk Athletics Association, keeping in mind the younger generation which needs to be encouraged to take up sports.
Sullia Taluk Athletics Association in collaboration with the state and district athletics associations and KVG Group of Educational Institutions have decided to conduct a state level half marathon for men, women and children of various age groups on January 19, 2019.
The various events of the day are, state level Half Marathon 21 km for men, 10 km for women and in the 16 years category 4 km for boys, 3 km for girls, in the masters’ section 4 km for men above 45 years and 3 km for women above 35 years. For the three sections, various track events will also be organised in collaboration with the various sports clubs, donors and patrons.
The winning athletes will get a cash prize of Rs 3 Lakh in total, medal, trophy and certificates.
The organisers have requested for wholehearted participation by the general public in the Half Marathon competition and extend support and encouragement to make this event a grand success.
